What is included?
The module can be taught as a complete scheme of work, although each lesson can also stand alone in its own right. Each of the 9 lessons come with clear lesson objectives/learning outcomes, starter and plenary activities and 3 sequenced lesson activities. These lesson activities are varied and are designed to engage, challenge and provoke discussion of this very sensitive issue.
Each lesson contains at least one differentiated homework task. Some of the featured lesson activities include understanding life for Blacks after slavery, segregation activity, the Louisiana Literacy Test simulation, the Montgomery Bus Boycott role-play, ‘Your dream for the future’, Martin Luther King versus Malcolm X paired and assessed debate activity and an investigation into the Martin Luther King assassination theories. Mark schemes, writing frames and peer assessment sample answers are provided. There is an end of unit test and pupil self evaluation and target setting form.
This resource contains 89 pages.
Combine this module with American Heroes: John F Kennedy Assassination Complete Lessons to provide an additional popular teaching resource especially in Year 9.
All of our resources include VAT and full institution site license.
“Having bought the Key Stage 3 Interactive Slavery Unit, I have been extremely pleased. It has bolted on to my current scheme of work. The assessment at the end is excellent with the PowerPoint with additional resources available to extend learning.”
Gareth Whitaker, Head of History, Settle Middle School, North Yorks.
“The History Interactive DVD’s we purchased were excellent. We ordered several Key Stage 3 modules including the Causes of the First World War and the Assessment for Learning King John and Richard III Pack. This included a fully resourced debate and assessments. They provided complete content coverage with elements of differentiation. All highly useable.”
Mrs S Young, Highbury Fields School, London.
